The State of Baja California is located in the Northwest México, in the northern part of the Baja California peninsula. It borders to the North with the U.S., sharing a border of 165 miles (145 with the California and 20 with Arizona). To the Northeast it borders the State of Sonora. To the South, the state borders Baja California Sur (on the lower part of the peninsula). To the west it borders the Pacific Ocean and to the East with the Gulf of California.
The Baja California peninsula is 781 miles long with an average width of 56 miles, making Baja California one of largest peninsulas in the world. It has almost the 12% of the territorial waters of México. It has 858 miles of beach along the Pacific Ocean and 398 along the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortés).
The State of Baja California occupies a land surface of 71,777.589 square km. Distributed in the municipalities (the Mexican equivalent of a County) of:

- Mexical:13,935.613 km²
- Tecate:3,578.454 km²
- Tijuana:1,239.490 km²
- Rosarito:513.320 km²
